Grosgrain ribbon is characterised by its ribbed appearance.
In weaving terms, the grosgrain weft yarn is heavier than the warp yarn, creating prominent transverse ribs. It can sometimes be referred to as “corded”, since the weft resembles a fine cord.
Grosgrain has a flat non-shiny appearance, but is very strong. It is a firm, close-woven ribbon often used in millinery and traditional embellishments, but also suitable for more practical purposes such as corporate lanyards and medal ribbons.
